∙ 15y agoItusually refers to a device that receives a light bulb. Example; light bulb socket, pin (end) sockets for fluorescent tubes. I have heard people make reference to wall receptacles as wall sockets. Electricians refer to wall devices as wall receptacles and this is the name under which they are sold.
