The standard classic white goose is a reference for pillow making. I think all varieties of geese can possibly be used.
The answer is simple, in the late 1800's, early 1900's pillows were filled with feathers. They would stuff a sac with feathers and sough it together. Then they started making fluff pillows, which were a sac filled with fluff these pillows would get dirty so they added a case over it and instead of throwing it away when it got dirty they would put a case and simply wash it when it got dirty.
The real quote is: 'Why am I covered in feathers?' and it's Bella Swan who's speaking.Spoiler alert!: Edward has ripped two pillows in pieces when they were making love on their honeymoon, and Bella hadn't noticed and asked that question the next day.

Depending on how concerned you are about how the feathers are produced. Even if you buy them at the store be careful most are NOT fake. They are real, they will say real or natural or sometimes nothing. If they are imitation they will most likely label them that way. I have been doing research myself looking for artificial feathers. The overall answers is that the bulk feathers are from the meat industry. But from what I have heard id the Peacock feathers are from molting season, the birds are not killed or forcibly plucked. But I found out they are making polyester feathers just have to find out who supplies them in the US. I will update if I find anything :) Good luck.
