The aim of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) is to address the environmental impact of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) when it reaches end-of-life and to encourage its collection, treatment, re-use, recovery, recycling and environmentally sound disposal.
The WEEE Directive covers 10 broad categories of product, although some specific exemptions do apply.
The legislation requires 'producers', re-branders and importers of EEE to be responsible for financing the collection, treatment, reuse, recycling and safe disposal of their goods.
Both household and non-household WEEE is subject to the WEEE Directive.
