No, hollyhocks do not need deadheading for they are not a woody stemmed plant, nor are they an annual. Let them turn to seed and either collect the seed for next year, or just let them drop to the ground.
You should deadhead your peonies back after the bloom has gone by. Deadhead back to the leaf of that stem. Let the green stems and leaves die back naturally. We cut ours back to the ground in the fall.

If you remove the old flower and leave the stem and leaves until they die back the plant will grow and bloom next year.
Very easy 1. Take out all the worm first. Search under all leaves there might be some cocoon already developed as well. 2. Cut all flowers. Dont let the flowers to bloom, when therey are long enough just cut it. The flying insect will lay the egss in the flowers, then the worm will eat all the plant. Guaranteed success!
