one possible theme is not everything is what it seems
To add on that ^ here are some examples:
In the beginning of the book Katsa is viewed as her uncle's killing machine, so everyone is pretty terrorized at the thought of her. Another example in Katsa's point of view is that she said that her Grace was killing before she even ventured to see what else she could do ( and she found out when she was with Po that her Grace was surviving. )
The second example in the book is about the King of Monsea. In the beginning Katsa, Po, and the gang all thought that Leck was a kind hearted man who had a love for animals. Turns out that that eyepatch he wore covered up for his Grace of being able to manipulate people and he did that to pretend he was all sweet and kind. Leck ended up fooling all the 7 kingdoms for a long time until Po came up with the very thought of his Grace.
The Hunger Games has a variety of themes. To begin with there is the theme of luck, or chance. One of the phrases that was commonly repeated throughout the story was "May the odds be ever in your favor". This quote is a logical theme because Katniss is always taking risks and chances that result both positively and negatively.
Another theme could be survival. Of course the main plot is to survive through a battle to the death, which means survival is crucial. Katniss not only survives through her Archery abilities, but through her previous adaptation to healing and hunting.
Another theme for The Hunger Games could be protect what you love. Katniss shows this many times throughout the story. When she volunteered for the Hunger Game in order to protect her sister. Trying to help Rue survive... going to the "dinner of the deaths" (i dont recall what it was called) in order to gain the medicine to heal Peeta. All of these relate to protecting beloved things.
The Hunger Games is a long enough novel that it includes several different themes. Most short stories only have one theme, but The Hunger games has many. The main themes in The Hunger Games include violence/war, survival, humanity/inhumanity, government control, reality TV/desensitization, hope, love, hunger/starvation, friendship, and trust.
This is not a theme! A theme is a message that is universal! Seriously
The theme in the hunger games is " KILLED OR BE KILLED"
Rebellion or staying true to yourself Peeta said the night before the Games that if he dies he doesn't want to become part of they're games and that is the theme.

The Hunger Games
The author of The Hunger Games wrote the book primarily to entertain readers. However, the story also serves as a critique of society and explores themes of power, inequality, and survival.
"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson is a short story that focuses on a town's ritualistic sacrifice, revealing themes of conformity and societal violence. "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins is a young adult dystopian novel where children are forced to fight to the death in a televised event, exploring themes of survival, government control, and resistance. While both works involve dark themes and social commentary, "The Lottery" is a commentary on tradition and mob mentality, while "The Hunger Games" focuses on individual agency and rebellion against oppressive systems.
