The most common font is Times New Roman. It's also the standard for formal or business matters. Arial is another. It's a lot more casual-looking, and friendlier to the reader's eyes in my opinion. Calibri is a newer one, i believe. It's the default font in Word 2007.
When in doubt, go with Times New Roman.
