How do you treat infected tonsils?
I have been plagued by these things for years. What doesn't
work: Clearing your throat, rinsing with salt water or mouthwash
etc, and sneezing What works but not the best: Scraping your
tonsils with a finger, q-tip, etc. It will work sometimes but not
all the time. Also these tend to be very painful if you make
multiple attempts. I have had my throat bleed because of it. Also
you can gag yourself ... not fun.
TONSOLITHS FIX: PLEASE READ THIS! IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF
GRIEF!
I just fixed my tonsil stone problem!
I'm not into alternative remedies, but after using a combination
of amoxicillin and flonase to no avail, I decided to take matters
into my own hands:
I went to the pharmacy and picked up a small plastic syringe
(without a needle-- DO NOT USE A NEEDLE!), which Walgreens actually
gave to me for free, as they don't sell them.
I filled the syringe with a mild saline solution made from nasal
irrigation salts in water.
I put the syringe into the pockets in the back of my throat and
fired! Presto! A heap of tonsoliths, hidden way down in the recess,
came popping out. I immediately repeated this a few times until the
tonsoliths stopped appearing. It's been a week, and I've
re-irrigated a few times, just to make sure, but I think I've cured
myself! Nothing has popped out since that first cathartic rinse.
And my bad breath is gone.
The bacteria that causes the tonsoliths sits in the recesses in
the tonsils, so it's really hard to remove all our tonsoliths.
When I decided to irrigate my tonsils, I thought that I had
succeeded in removing all my tonsoliths through pressure and
prodding with a Q-tip-- I thought that the irrigation would just
kill the bacteria and prevent the formation of any others. I had no
idea that the cavities in the tonsil run so deep. No wonder
clearing a few tonsoliths manually had achieved little in the way
of curing my bad breath!
So, my advice is to irrigate, and not to poke around with your
tonsils using your fingers or anything else. A neat jet of water,
and you're done!
PS. I've also tried irrigating with Listerine, in an attempt to
make sure I've killed the bacteria. Not sure which is better, but
I'd start with saline as it's milder.
