The SI unit is the pascal (air pressure is about 100,000 pascal). Other units include the Bar ("standard air pressure", which approx. = that 100 kPa ), and the torr, which is approximately equal to millimetres Hg but used for measuring vacua. Air pressure is about 760 torr.

Pascal (Pa) is the S.I. units of pressure. Another common unit is the atmosphere (atm). Other units can be used (depending on where you live- US or UK) such as the bar and the psi (pounds per square inch).

Conversions between each unit are readily available online.

There are many units for measuring the pressure but the most used units are :

I- 1 PSI: Pounds per sq. In= 27.73 Inches of water@68F=2.311 feet of water@68F=2.036 Inches of Mercury@0C=0.07031 kilograms per sq. cm.=0.0680 atomospheres=51.71 Millimeters of mercury@0c=0.7043 Meters of water= 0.06895 Bar=6.895 kilo Pascals

II- 1 Bar= 14.50 Pounds per sq. in=1.020 kilograms per sq. cm.=100.0 Kilo Pascals

The two most common units to measure atmospheric (barometric) pressure, is either the height of a column of mercury a complete vacuum could suck up, which is on average at sea level 760 mm or 29.92", or in millibars (mBar), which is a metric unit equal to 1/100 Pascals. At sea level, the average pressure is 1013.2 mBars.

For the air pressure of, say an inflated tire, the two common units are pounds per square inch (psi) and kiloPascals

(kPa).

These are usually "gauge pressures", meaning that the atmospheric pressure has already been subtracted. For example, a car tire may be rated for 35 psig.

The absolute pressure of the air in the tire would probably be closer to 50 psi, but atmospheric pressure, about 14.7 psi, is subtracted. That is why a tire gauge shows zero pressure when not connected, even though atmospheric pressure is always being exerted on it, as it is on us all. Of course, to measure gauge pressure of a partial vacuum (less than atmospheric pressure)

, the gauge would have to be able to give negative readings.

There are dozens of ways of expressing air pressure, usually grouped around the length of a column of mercury, or some other liquid, that could be pulled by a vacuum, or simply in units of Force per unit area. However, sometimes even these units aren't obvious. For example, a "Torr", usually seen on vacuum gauges, is actually just a mm of mercury, mentioned at the beginning. A really good vacuum might be measured in "microns" (micrometers) of mercury.

There are 3 units of pressure: Kilopascal (kPa), atmosphere (atm) and pound per square inch (psi). Kilopascal at standard pressure is 101.3 kPa and standard pressure for atmosphere is 1 atm.

Does kilopascal measure pressure?

Pressure is measured by a pressure gauge, pressure transducer or other similar device. Once measured, the pressure can be expressed in any one of a number of different units. The "kilopascal" is one unit that's commonly used.

What can you measure in units of Pascal Torr or Bar?

Units of Pascal, Torr, or Bar are commonly used to measure pressure. These units represent the force exerted by a fluid or gas over a given area. Pascal is the SI unit, Torr is commonly used in vacuum measurements, and Bar is used in meteorology and industrial applications.
