Organisms often become extinct as a result of humans continuing to hunt and kill them even though they might be very few in numbers & there are no mates available with whom they can reproduce. Another cause or contributing cause can be when the basic ecological environment in which the organism requires to live & reproduce in the wild is removed or destroyed. Sometimes when people introduce foreign species to new places, they drive native species (that have not evolved a defense mechanism) to extinction. For example, introducing dogs to an island that does not have any large predators and on which Flightless Birds live. Starvation, disease, and environmental changes e.g. Ice ages, and meteor strikes.
