The 2 hormones that affect female secondary characteristics are estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen plays the greatest role in secondary sexual characteristics. Progesterone may play a role in fatty distribution and may add up to 30% more volume to the breasts than estrogen alone would.
Of course, "estrogen" is a misnomer. There are 3 main human estrogens. The most active is estradiol, and what comes from the ovaries is estrone. Technically, the ovaries don't even make the estrone. They produce an androgen (male-like hormone) and an enzyme. By the time they reach the bloodstream, they convert to estrone. Then as estrone circulates, some is converted to estradiol. Estrone also breaks down into estriol. Estriol is the highest during pregnancy while the ovaries are shut down, so most of the estriol during pregnancy comes from the placenta.
Women have Estrogen, and a little bit of testostorone.
