What are two functions of the federal parliament?
Two functions include to pass legislation and to keep the Executive accountable through committees and question time.
In Australia, the federal parliament building is called Parliament House. It is the building from where the members of the Australian House of Representatives and the Australian Senate operate, and is located in Canberra. The name of the federal parliament building in other countries may differ according to the country.
For over two decades following Federation, the federal parliament met in the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, Victoria. The reason for this was that this was the only building in Australia large enough to house the very first parliament and the invited guests. Parliament House in Canberra was only completed in 1927.
