San Francisco and Los Angeles are the two largest. Other large cities include the capital- Sacramento, Stockton, San Jose, Oakland, Salinas, Fresno, San Bernerdino, Riverside and San Diego.

The are a number of very large cities in California. Los Angeles is certainly the largest, but I'd have to look up which would be second. San Francisco may be #2 in people's minds, but it is neither especially large nor especially populous. (The "San Francisco Bay Area" comprises dozens of cities and towns, and in total might approach the size of LA. This includes San Jose, Oakland, and Berkeley, to name only a few.) San Diego and Sacramento are two more "large cities". Bakersfield, Fresno and Riverside are pretty big, but not as large as the ones above.
