Hello,

Well, When something hits a barrier it can either go through it or bounce off. Like a bullet. When you fire a bullet at a wall, if the wall is soft it would pass through and if it is too strong, the bullet would ricochet off the wall.

For waves, they either pass into the barrier using the barrier as a medium or bounce off. Remember that when some waves that hit the barrier transfer, there would be always some who 'bounce back'

The words I use are not entirely scientifically correct but you get the idea.

Hope I Helped

What are two wave interactions that can occur when a wave encounters a barrier?

When a wave encounters a barrier, it can undergo reflection, where it bounces off the barrier and travels back in the direction it came from; or diffraction, where it bends around the barrier and spreads out into the region behind it.

Two wave interactions that can occur when a wave encounters a barrier?

Two wave interactions that can occur when a wave encounters a barrier are reflection and diffraction. Reflection occurs when the wave bounces off the barrier, changing direction. Diffraction occurs when the wave bends around the barrier, spreading out after passing through it.

What two wave interactions happen when a wave hits a barrier?

When a wave hits a barrier, two wave interactions that can occur are reflection, where the wave bounces off the barrier and returns in the opposite direction, and diffraction, where the wave bends around the barrier and spreads out.

What two things that can affect the amount of diffraction of a wave?

The amount of diffraction of a wave is affected by the wavelength of the wave and the size of the obstacle or opening it encounters. Waves with longer wavelengths exhibit more diffraction, and smaller obstacles or openings lead to more diffraction of the wave.

Incoming wave is the incident wave?

An incoming wave is referred to as the incident wave when it encounters a boundary. The incident wave can be partially reflected and partially transmitted at the boundary, depending on the properties of the two mediums it is traveling through.

How does the size of a barrier or opening affect the amount of diffraction of a wave?

Huygen's Principle tells us that, at each point that a propagating wave reaches, a spherical wave emanates outwards from that point. When we're looking at a plane wave propagating (without a collision), the spherical emanations from each point on the wave front cancel out in all but the forward propagation direction, which is why a plane wave continues to travel as a plane wave. When a wave strikes a barrier with a tiny opening in it, on the other side of the opening you can expect to see waves propagating outward radially from the opening. When the opening is wider, the spherical waves coming from the points towards the center of the opening nearly cancel out, but at the edges of the opening there isn't anything to cancel out with, so if you're not in line with the opening (as in, if you look at the nearest point in the opening, your line of sight is not perpendicular to the original wavefront), you will see the wavefront coming radially from the opening edge nearest you. The closer you are (angularly) to being in front of the opening, the more plane-like the wave will be. It is because of this same diffraction that we see an interference pattern when there are two small openings in the barrier. In this case, the radial waves will constructively and destructively interfere at different points beyond the barrier.

What series compressions and refraction forms this wave?

The wave described may be produced by a series of compressions and rarefactions in a medium such as air or water. When the wave encounters a boundary between two different media, refraction may occur, causing the wave to change direction as it enters the new medium.

When does partial reflection occur?

Partial reflection occurs when a wave encounters a boundary between two mediums with different refractive indices, causing part of the wave to be reflected back and part to be transmitted through the boundary. This phenomenon can be observed in various wave types, such as light or sound waves.

A disturbance at the boundary between two media?

When a disturbance, like a wave, encounters the boundary between two media with different properties such as density or speed of propagation, it can cause reflection, transmission, or a combination of both. This interaction at the boundary can lead to changes in the direction, speed, and amplitude of the disturbance.
