The food then was often what was easily available like; venison, fish, meat, grains, corn, spices and were plentiful. This is more than two items but kept thinking of things.
It is probably no surprise, but wild turkey was one of the main courses. There were several other dishes there as well. Some you may not have guessed. There were stewed eels, sea bass, cod, and other sea foods. However, they stayed away from mussels such as clams. Mussels were considered food for desperate times. There was a good deal of meat. The meats included venison and foul. They ate ducks, geese, and swan. There were butters and cheeses made from goat milk, as well as breads. They did not tend to eat many vegetables, but pumpkin and beans would have been on the menu. Cranberries were in abundance, but due to lack of sugar, they were not very appealing, and not included with the meal. It was possible they had beer, as it was a common drink of the time. The Pilgrims did not believe in getting drunk, but for sanitation reasons, beer was often safer than water. Even the children drank it.
