your farm will let you start to open your gifts from under your tree on Christmas (Dec. 25), until that day you can only look at your wrapped presents by clicking on your tree and then clicking on "look inside". when Christmas day comes you can start opening your presents your farmville friends have sent to you. the presents don't just appear in your "gifts", you have to click on your Christmas tree and click on "open gifts" one at a time, then they will appear in your "gifts". presents have to be given to you by your farmville friends, and if they don't then you have no presents.
the elephant is a special time only item. if you are lucky a mystery gift might hold one or at Christmas alot of the gifts had things that i believe has been not seen on farmville for a short time from the beginning of the year.
