what are veterans trained to do.
United States
First they're trained; at various forts and bases and camps thru-out the US. Then they're sent to the region in need of their services.
Thank you for your service. In today's all volunteer force, I am profoundly grateful for your sacrifices in service to our country. The primary source of help is the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). There are several advocate groups trained and ready to assist - and to represent you before the VA. Check with your local state Veterans Affairs office, or the DAV, VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, or the VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America). These organizations train paid staff to represent veterans. You do not need to be a member of the group to be represented.

The "American Legion" was created by WWI veterans in about 1919. The "Veterans of Foreign Wars" (VFW) was created by Spanish-American Veterans of 1898, and is our oldest Veterans group. The "American Veterans" (AMVETS) was created by WWII veterans. Originally, these veteran groups were open to only their own veterans, but as time went by they opened to all "qualified" veterans.
