A volcano is a mountain or hill and in most cases hot lava erupts from them due to the pressure and energy released inside the Earth. When ash and gases try to escape they erupt into lava which comes from volcanoes.

What are the three types of volacanoes?

The three types of volcanoes are shield, cinder cone, and stratovolcano. Shield volcanoes have gentle slopes and are formed by the eruption of low-viscosity lava flows. Cinder cone volcanoes are steep-sided and are formed by the accumulation of loose pyroclastic material around a vent. Stratovolcanoes have a conical shape and are composed of alternating layers of lava flows, volcanic ash, and debris.

Why do so many Earth's volcanoes occur along plate boundaries?

The reason alot of volacanoes are around the plate boundaries is because the plates are floating on magma. They float around and sometimes they collide(or hit) eachother, causing the parts that hit to rise and form mountains or folds on the surface. The magma underneath also goes up into the volcano.
