"What are you doing" is not a word in Japanese, but a phrase (like in English).
Spelled out:
"Nani o shiteimasu ka?"
Hiragana:
なに を しています か?
Kanji:
何をしていますか?
This is the polite long form. If you were to ask a close friend, you'd say "shiteiru (している)" instead of "shiteimasu."
何食べているの?
There are a lot of ways actually. But this is kind of said between friends, what are you eating.
'Ima nani shite iru (n desu ka).'
