Social Psychology is a VERY broad field so social psychologists have very different interests. Most of the topics researched by social psychologists involve how a person is influenced by other people or how/what people think about other people and social situations. This includes (but is not limited to):

Comformity, Compliance, Obedience, Persuasion

Social facilitation (how other people change your performance)

Teacher-student interaction, Doctor-patient interaction

Social learning (vicarious, emmulation)

Managing Expectations

Cognitive Dissonance (backwards reasoning)

Attribution (why we think others do things)

Self-esteem, self-handicapping

Happiness and positive psychology

How people cope with rejection, bad news...

Stereotypes, prejudice

Legal psychology (how jurors make decisions, etc.)

Health psychology (and barriers that prevent people from getting help)

Environmental psychology

Dating and relationships

Family dynamics

Group think, risky shift (people doing riskier things in groups), herding behavior

I could go on...

Social psychology crosses with but is different from Sociology mainly in that Social Psychology focuses on a person and other people influence them or what they think about others, etc. Sociology tends to focus on the level of society, societal forces and the like.

How does social psychology differ from psychology?

Social Psychology is a particular branch of Psychology - I would not say that it "differs" from Psychology, but rather that it is a specialization or type of Psychology. It focuses not only on groups of people, but also on how individuals interact with other people whether in large or small groups. Some particular areas of interest within social psychology are persuasion, in-groups and out-groups, decision-making, and stereotyping. So although Social Psych. is a sub-field of Psychology, it is still quite broad and varied.

MBA programs accept undergraduates from many different programs; not just business. A psych major might have a very good chance of getting into a program, all else being equal.
