On September 1, 1862, Confederate General Lee see's a chance to destroy elements of the Army of the Potomac at Chantilly, Virginia. This is part of the disorganized and defeated army after the Second Bull Run. Stonewall Jackson attempts to attack the flank of Pope's army but is repelled. Lee then orders Jackson to disengage and Pope begins a retreat to Washington DC. Although this is an "inconclusive" battle, the Union loses two generals, Philip Kearny and Issac Stevens.
