The scriptures speak of the 10 Avatars of Vishnu - different incarnations that take the form of divine intervention provided by Vishnu during the various stages of human evolution. The "Dashavatara" (ten avatars) is meant to re-establish dharma or righteousness and destroy tyranny and injustice on earth.
The ten Avatars are:
1. Matsya (the fish)
2. Koorma (the tortoise)
3. Varaha (the boar)
4. Narasimha (the human-lion)
5. Vamana (the dwarf)
6. Parasurama (the angry man, Rama with an axe)
7. Lord Rama (the perfect man, king of Ayodha)
8. Lord Krishna (the divine statesman)
9. Balarama (elder brother of Krishna)
10. Kalki (the mighty worrior)
The last Avatar is yet to appear, and in many versions of the mythology, the ninth incarnation is mentioned as Lord Buddha.
Rama and Krishna, the human incarnations (Avataras) of Vishnu are popular all over India. Rama is considered the perfect human. Hindus try to emulate his actions. Krishna is the beloved God of hindus, mischevious as well as wise. He is supposed to be the writer of Geeta, the book of wisdom, and one of the foremost scriptures of hindus, and they try to follow its instructions. Vishnu is supposed to sustain the universe. Buddha is considered the last human incarnation of Vishnu till now (the last is prophesied to come 427,000 years from now). So, Vishnu is the root of all that is perfect, lovable, and wise. That is why God Vishnu is important in Hindu life.
Hindus do all the things non-Hindus do and they have all the emotions that non-Hindus have.
Many hindus do have arranged marriages but not all hindus do.
Where are Hindus in the world?
Hindus are from Bharath itself
Hindus believe in reincarnation.
Hindus have priests & priestesses.
It is a misunderstanding. Hindus do not do it.
There are gay, straight, bisexual Hindus. There are theistic, atheistic, deistic Hindus. There are really religious and non-religious Hindus. Hindus have all sorts of different lifestyles, depending on the particular Hindu.
Mostly it is the gods that inspire the Hindus, but normal everyday people can inspire Hindus as well.
Not all the Indians are Hindus. Almost 80% who live in India are estimated to be Hindus.
Avataras (avatars) are people who are considered to be incarnations of one or another of the Gods in the Hindu pantheon. Avatars are different than enlightened or perfected individuals: in Hinduism, individuals can slowly achieve perfection (meaning that they've reached a state where they have released themselves from karma and no longer need to reincarnate into another life; avataras, by contrast are incarnations of beings who never had to work through the karma, who enter into the world for no reason other than to offer something to humans. For example, Hindus consider Ram, Krishna, and Buddha all to be incarnations of Vishnu. 1. Avatars means Brahman coming down from it's supreme state to the world. 2. God Shiva, God Vishnu & Goddess Sakthi had taken many avatars in India. 3. God Vishnu, the preserver of humanity had taken many avatars like Matsya(Fish), Kurma(Turtle), Varaha(Boar), Narasimha(Man-Lion), Vamana(Dwarf), Parasu Rama, Rama, Buddha, Kalki avatar(yet to takeplace). 4. God Shiva, the Destroyer of evil deeds of humanity had taken avatars like Shankaracharya, Kalabairava, Hanuman, Suga-Brahmam etc.. 5. Goddess Sakthi, the mother of universe had taken avataras like madurai meenakshi, madangini devi, Sharadambal, Rukmini, Sita devi, Bala tripurasundari etc.. 6. In short all incarnations of God Vishnu, God Shiva & Goddess Sakthi are the avataras in hinduism.
