outside of Atlanta and Fort McAllister, near Savannah there was no battle worthy of mention, which took place along Sherman's March to the Sea.

Mid-November 1864. Ended just before Christmas. They were out of contact all that time, because the telegraph wires had been cut. On reaching Savannah, Sherman sent Lincoln a telegram via the US Navy, offering him the city of Savannah as a Christmas present.
