That's the Sequoia Nightingale, Passiformus Credulum. Daytime sightings are rare, but they look like a small version of an Acorn Woodpecker, but with a very delicate beak instead of the sturdy beak of the woodpecker.
The big bird that flies around at night is an owl. There are many breeds of owl, like the barn owl. The have big eyes that help them see well at night. They also have sharp hearing to catch any little creature scurrying around the floors of their habitat. Other things that fly around at night are bats. They have poor vision but their hearing is superb. They have super sonic hearing, that means that they can use their ears to see object. But bats are not birds.
what time is beggars night
Think about it this way. When you are in darkness(like at night) do you use hearing to help you know where you are going? People who have lost their sight-they will not see with their eyes, they will see what is around them with using touch or hearing. Their hearing will compensate for what they cannot see.

Sam Clemens lectured on the Sandwich Islands in Petaluma, Sonoma COUNTY on Nov. 26, 1866. He lectured in Oakland the next night. Although he surely must have visited the TOWN of Sonoma during his life in SF from June of 1864 to December of 1866, there is no record of it as far as I know. And there are no references to Sonoma in ANY of his published writings. I know this because I portray Sam professionally in the town of Sonoma and would dearly love to prove he was here. I have asked the Mark Twain Project at UC Berkeley's Bancroft Library, and they don't know of any reference, but told me they still had over 6,000 letters to catalogue. Of course there may be other letters or diaries of Sonoma residents with a description of a Clemens visit...but I haven't found it yet. George Webber www.georgewebber.com
