Only the end is from On The Road. The first parts can be found in Visions of Cody, that is, Kerouac amalgamated this reading and was not really reading from a book. This was Kerouac's opportunity to tell a large audience why he writes. One should follow carefully what he says. This reading is a momentous event but not much noted.
