However: Personally: The Gospel of Saint John, specifically JN 3:16 as this shows great insight into the reason why Jesus came - and it is written by Jesus' best friend. Doctrinally: Romans - written by Paul which covers much of Christian doctrine writt for the sophisticated new Christians in Rome History: Genesis - if read in the correct way, plus Exdus and the Books of Kings for the history of the Jewish natiion Prayer: Psalms - the Hebrew 'hymn book' and book of prayers Prophecy: Revelation - but a difficult book to unserstand as it is written in 'apocalyptic' language.
