The longhorn cattle breed was created from the interbreeding of Spanish and English cattle. This hybridization resulted in a hardy breed that adapted well to the harsh conditions of the American Southwest. These cattle are known for their distinctive long horns and ability to thrive in arid climates.
The first American-created breed of beef cattle would be the Texas Longhorn and also the Florida Cracker/Pineywoods cattle. Both breeds descended from the Spanish cattle that were imported from Spain in the late 1400's.

The Canadienne. Cattle (of unknown breeding) from Normandy and Brittany where imported to Canada in the 16th and 17th centuries to create a breed known as the Canadienne. Thus the Canadienne breed was the first breed of cattle that was "imported" and created in Canada.
The Brahman breed was created in Texas from crossing three B. indicus Indian breeds (Nellore, Gyr, and Guzerat) that were imported to America together to create the American Brahman. Many people state that the Brahman is actually an Indian breed from India, but the problem with this statement is that it assumes that the Brahman breed itself was created in and originated from India, which it isn't and it is. The Brahman breed was created in the United States from the three main Indian breeds of cattle mentioned above. This makes it an American breed, not an Indian breed. Please see the related link below.
Most of the research for creating the Brangus breed was done by the USDA at the USDA Experimental Station in Jeanerette, Louisiana, USA, starting around the early 1930's. During the same period, Clear Creek Ranch of Welch, Oklahoma and Grenada, Mississippi, Raymond Pope of Vinita, Oklahoma, the Essar Ranch of San Antonio, Texas, and a few individual breeders in other parts of the United States and Canada were also carrying on private experimental breeding programs. All the producers and the USDA was working to find a desirable beef-type animal that both had the Brahman's natural ability to thrive in adverse conditions and retain the qualities which the Angus breed was known for. In Vinita, Oklahoma, breeders from 16 states and Canada came together to form the American Brangus Association in July 2, 1949, later named the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA).
