Alveoli is the plural of alveolus. This is the name of the microscopic air sacs in the lungs where inspired gas comes in contact with capillaries of the pulmonary circulation, allowing gas exchange between air and blood. Oxygen enters the blood and carbon dioxide leaves the blood inside the alveoli.
Blood is bright red due to the high concentrations of oxygen in it. This blood is known as oxygenated blood. Blood that appears dark in color or "blue" is blood that has been used by the body and has a higher concentration of carbon dioxide in it. This blood in known as deoxygenated blood!

Blood clotting does occur for blood in uninjured blood vessels due to its insulation from air. Our bodies produce what is called heparin that prevents clotting of blood in vessels. Heparin allows our lungs to transfer oxygen to our blood. When blood is exposed to air it clots so heparin allows the blood to come in direct contact with the air we breath without clotting.
