The Gregorian calendar, which was promulgated by Pope Gregory XIII beginning in 1582, but was not adopted by some countries until the 18th and 19th century, and not universally applied until the early 20th century.

The Gregorian was a correction to the Julian calendar that modified the number of leap years to keep the calendar closer to the astronomical year. The Gregorian year averages 365.2425 days instead of 365.25 days, with the result that 3 of every 4 centennial years (e.g 1700, 1800, 1900) is not a leap year.

The ending of the world is not 2012 miscalculation?

It is not that the world is ending...it's the end of the Mayan Calendar. The reason the Mayan Calendar ends is because, for the first time in the history of the world, the planets will be aligned exactly as they when they started the calendar.

How is the Aztec calendar different from the modern calendar?

The Aztec calendar is different from the modern calendar in many ways. Many have seen the iconic image of the circular Aztec calendar; this illustrates that the Aztecs viewed time as cyclical rather than linear. The Aztec calendar is also made up of two systems that can work independently or coherently. Mythology is also deeply integrated into the Aztec calendar, incorporating the all-important equilibrium of the spiritual and natural world.
