It can be 32 S&W short center fire or 38 S&W center fire. I have one of each. They shoot fine with the wheel gun ammo. It is a little pricey , but fun to shoot at 7 yds. People will tell you that modern smokeless powder should not be used but the wheel gun shorts are such low power you would be OK. Just keep the muzzle velocity below 800.
