On an individual basis, the first thing would be for people to have peace in their hearts. If they have peace then they will not need to make war. For the Christian, the 'peace which passes all understanding,' comes from knowing Jesus.
Also, it is important for people to respect others and to not try to impose their views on others. True tolerance is also probably quite a rare thing as many who talk about it the most loudly are themselves the most intolerant. For a Christian respect both for others and for proper authority comes from God. Others may have their own sources, but if people don't respect either authority, or others, they will inevitably clash.
