No, bird seed is not a pure substance. It is a mixture of various seeds, grains, and sometimes nuts that are provided as food for birds.
Incorporating thistle seed into a bird feeder mix can attract a variety of small birds like finches and sparrows. Thistle seed is high in nutrients and can help birds maintain their health and energy levels. Additionally, it can help diversify the types of birds that visit your feeder, providing a more enjoyable bird-watching experience.
I have no idea what mealy bug worms are but old-fashioned mothballs are not recommended - the ones made from naphthalene. But you can use one of the fly/moth killer strips that are impregnated with dichlovos if you are in the US. (They are illegal in the EU). I have also used pyrethrum powder or even malathion powder placed under some newspaper that you then stand the seed on.
Not all birds eat seeds, but the ones that do eat it because it provides nourishment. (It is their food.)
It dependes. Different kinds of bird seeds have always been around but it is very hard to trace it back to the first bird seed because new seeds are being introduced to birds every day. Bird food/seeds did not all come as a varriety all at once.
To attract thistle-loving birds to your garden using thistle bird seed, the best way is to place a bird feeder filled with thistle seed in a visible and accessible location. Thistle-loving birds, such as finches and sparrows, are attracted to the small seeds and will be drawn to the feeder. Make sure to keep the feeder clean and filled with fresh seed to maintain their interest.
