there shouldn't be pain
Root canan usually done by using pain killers. and there will not be any pain by doing that.
what could have happened is that the root canal was not done properly, or the tooth was so damaged that the root canal did not work. In this event, the tooth may have to be pulled (its what happened to me about a week ago)
You can elect to be put completely under during a root canal. You will have some pain once you wake up.
If a root canal has been done properly, the tooth itself will never feel pain again. The root canal process removes all nerve tissue from the inside of the tooth. However, there will still be nerves surrounding the tooth located in the periodontal ligament that attaches the tooth to the bone. These nerves feel pressure, and help you 'feel' your teeth when you bite down. After a root canal is done, you can still 'feel' pressure-type pain from these outside nerves if you bite on something too hard or break your tooth.
No that is not normal. I had a root canal done and it did not hurt at all. Call your dentist and see what he can do for you. Good luck and God Bless:)
I'm in severe pain took meds
Root canal surgery is done by an endodontist.
When it can't be stabilized
Yes.
I have done just that on 2 of my teeth, both which have gone to hell and ended up getting a root canal done on them. I waited cause i called shinanigans on my dentist thinking he was after my $ (which he still was) but only after entering excruciating pain did i get them done. My advice is if you are unsure get a 2nd opinion, but for gods sakes make sure you do something and don't wait for the pain, because that pain will make you want to die.
Pain depends on the severity of the infection, the depth of the root canal, the "skill" of the dentist, and your pain threshold. There's lots of factors in a root canal which can increase/decrease pain. I've personally had three root canals. At some points during, it is not comfortable at all. I've never felt pain during any of my root canals, probably because of the anasthetic which is used. In my last root canal I had a small ache afterwards for two days, which I'd pitch at around 2 out of 10.
