Why is phenolphthalein indicator used?

Phenolphthalein is used as an indicator because the color of the solution is changed according to pH.

Why methyl orange is used instead of phenolphthalein in hcl and naoh titration?

This is so since the pH at the end point of Phenolphthalein is 9.1 and methyl orange is 3.7. For a strong acid strong base titration which the end point is between 3-11 phenolphthalein is used

Can phenolpthalein solution be used to prove that toothpaste is a base?

Phenolphthalein changes from colorless to pink in the range of pH 8.2 - 10. If toothpaste has a pH that is below this range, phenolphthalein will not indicate the basicity. if the pH is higher, which I believe it is in most (some) toothpastes, then phenolphthalein can be used, because it will turn from colorless to pink.

What chemical change in orange?

You think probable to phenolphthalein used as a pH indicator.

Why you are adding phenolphthalein as a indicator?

One would add phenolphthalein as an indicator for bases with a pH of 8.2 to 10.0 If the phenolphthalein changes color from colorless to pink or red, a base with a pH between the aforementioned pH values is present.

How does phenolphthalein work?

Phenolphthalein is an indicator that undergoes a colour change from colourless to pink that begins at a pH of 8.0. So in the titration your performing the phenolphthalein will start to change colour at the point when the moles of acid equal the moles of base. Although this colour change occurs at a pH of 8.0 and not at a pH of 7.0 phenolphthalein is commonly used because of the distinctive colour change that occurs. Phenolphthalein is colourless in acids and pink/purple in base. It also turns orange in very strong acids.

What is the aim of phenolphtalein used in the synthesis of NYLON 6 -10?

Phenolphthalein is used only as an indicator of pH; it is not a reactant.

Formula and pH of phenopthelin?

Phenolphthalein is a sensitive pH indicatorwith the formula C20H14O4

The true equivalence point in these titration was at pH7 What is the pH range for the color change of phenolphthalein?

Phenolphthalein changes from colorless to red in the range of pH = 8.0 to 9.6

What indicator is used in the preparation of sodium chloride?

An indicator is not necessary; but if you want phenolphthalein is colorless at pH=7.

What is the colour of phenolphthalein above pH equals 9?

Phenolphthalein is the PH indicator used to detect the acidity of the solution. When the solution is acidic or near-neutral (PH<8.2), it's colorless; when the solution is basic (8.2<PH<10.0),it will turn from colorless to pink, and gradually turns fuchsia when PH reaches 12.0, back to colorless when overpasses 12.0.

Is the universal indicator or phenolphthalein is more accurate?

THe universal indicator is more accurate as it can detect different ranges in the pH, whereas phenolphthalein only changes at a ph of 8.0
