If a mare is 4-8 days late, don't sweat it. However, if you're mare is 9-12 days late, CALL YOUR VET! Something could be wrong with the mare or the foal or BOTH!
Baby horses are called foals, they are born in the usual mammal way of giving birth. And, almost always, born from the female kind. Lol. You need a stallion- not a gelding- and a mare, to breed two horses. Then, after 9 months, the foal is born.
They have sex and the sperm goes into the egg of a female in it makes babies! ---- to have sex, or mate it can be assisted or just done by them selves! With assited horse mating there is a mare, or female horse, and a stallion, or breeding male horse. They hold on tight to the mare, and the stallion gets on the mares back and does his job! Someonespecial613 says: Well, my answer is a bit similar to their answers. You can take your mare to a stud or just use one of your own stallions (you definitely can't use a gelding!) If you use your own stallion then just wait until your mare is definitely ready for mating (see "how can I tell when my mare is ready to have a baby") and just leave them alone. Before you know it a new foal will be born to your herd! Someonespecial613 says: The male horse will show great interest in the mare and vice versa. They mate and the sperm reaches the egg and penetrates it and a foal is conceived! Yeh, The male will put his front legs over the females back and they will have sex, the male's sperm will reach the female's egg and they will fuse together, and then it will grow and form a foal, and then the mother will push the foal out when it is ready to be born.
A Horse is larger and goes neigh and a Donkey is smaller, looks different and goes eeee orrrrrrrr. Hope this helped!!!
a recluse horse
On average, starting at the time the water bag is first visible to when the foal is lying on the ground, it should take around 30-45 minutes. Horses deliver fast, and when they don't is when there is a problem.
the foal could be dead or there maturing more. Sometimes its a sign of twins.
First it goes foal then yearling then 2 year old then adult then mature adult. There you have it!
No. Most of the horse world goes by this... Newborn/foal are under a year. Yearlings are 1-3 Horses is 4+
Any time a horse or broodmare goes down is reason for concern. If you are concerned about the horse's health, a veterinarian is the best person to contact as soon as possible.
a mare goes into heat in the Summer if it doesn't have a foal from last year you can only mate her when she is in heat after you mate her in 11 months or late spring early summer she will give birth
The pregnant mare horse will probably lie down though it may stand. The contractions will come. These can be painful. If the horse has given birth before it will be easier, but if this is her first time it might prove to be harder. She will start to push the foal out with the contractions. Eventually if all goes well she will give birth to a healthy foal. If she is having noticeable trouble, CALL A VET. In fact, you should always have a vet on the scene once the mare starts pushing. If you reach a hand in the mare's rear end and feel hooves, like, RIGHT THERE, than that's a breech birth. That is an emergency, always have a vet. If you feel the foal's head when you reach in, all is probably well. Now, understand that the pregnant mare is probably in pain. Soothe her. Comfort her. Pet and stroke her. Be prepared for a long wait until the foal is born. I repeat, always always always have a professional veterinarian on hand.
