if by "in time" you mean the timing, that can cause the car to have less power, increase fuel consumption and other things...
But, if your vehicle has a timing belt, and that belt breaks while the car is in motion, - in short, it destroys the engine. Not completely, but the damage - parts and labor - is going to run into several thousands of dollars in a worst-case scenario. If you have a timing belt, and the manufacturer has a recommended replacement interval, don't cheat - it's way huge cheaper to have it replaced on time.
To fix the Pontiac Sunfire if it jumped time, the timing belt has to be replaced. Then the car has to have the timing set again after the belt is replaced.
If it is a 4cyl then no. It has an upper and lower timing chain. If it is a 6cyl then yes. It has a timing belt, an idler, and a belt tentioner that all should be replaced at the same time.
It doesn't have a timing belt...it has a metal timing chain...these do not standardly wear out for a very long time.
The 2002 Honda Passport has a timing belt. This belt must be replaced every 100,000 miles. You should also replaced the water pump at the same time. Warning: This is an interference engine.
You do not have to replace the timing belt but you will have to remove it in order the replace the pump. Unless the belt is pretty new I suggest you replace it at the same time you replace the pump. The pump should have been replaced when you replaced the belt at 105,000 miles.
If the timing belt drives the water pump, then yes, you should replace the pump at the same time as the belt.
First and foremost this engine does not have a timing belt. It acutally has a timing chain which does not need to be replaced unless there are issues with the vehicle holding time.
If the timing belt has not been replaced during prior visits the 105k interval is when it should be replaced regardless of inspection. It should be checked at 60k and 80k for the 1.8T, and if there are signs of wear at that time replaced.
The timing belt needs to be replaced about every 100k miles. Actually the recommended interval is 105,000 miles. You also replace the tensioner and idler pulley at this time
I just replaced the timing belt on my 98 camry 4 cly and know it has now spark and im am positive that it is in time
If the timing belt drives the water pump you should also replaced it at the same time. Also inspect the tensioner and replace as necessary.
you need to have the timing belt replaced....if it has broken you have probably bent the valves
