The most effective way to stop hot flashes is to reduce the amount of stress, caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, and cigarettes from your life. The other good cure is to keep your house cooler at night to reduce the night sweats.

I have been into taking natural supplements for years and had tried many different things for my hot flashes. After much research I started taking bio-identical hormone replacement. This is different from traditional hormone replacement (premarin/prempro) and focuses on balancing all minor hormones and not just replacing estrogen. It is the balance that achieves the best success for overall well being. I no longer have hot flashes, night sweats or any of the other multitudes of symptoms of menopause (or a hormone imbalance). The best place to find a good doctor that deals with bio-identical hormone replacement is to call a local compounding pharmacy and ask for their recommendation. Also, read Suzanne Somers The Sexy Years. My doctor is actually part of my HMO plan. I feel better now at 55 than I did at 32 when I became perimenopausal.

There are many natural medications available such as Rice Bran, black cohosh and soy .Occurrence of hot flashes is more prevalent in the west compared to east. It is because Rice Bran is staple in the Asian region and women there go through the change with ease because of it.

Hot flashes are caused by hormonal imbalances during menopause. Women experience a decrease in estrogen levels that can cause not only hot flashes but other menopausal symptoms such as low energy levels, forgetfulness, low libido.

There are various ways in which you can help ease hot flashes;

  • you can start by avoiding triggers such as spicy food, caffeine, and alcohol.
  • increase exercise activity
  • quit smoking
  • balance your hormones with BioIdentical Hormone Therapy

The above answer is spot on, If I may let me add a bit of detail & depth here is what i would say:

We are all looking for a magic bullet in pill form that doesn't exist. Everyone's symptoms are unique, but they all have pretty much the same root cause. Your body is getting out of the baby making business & ready for the next phase of your life, so it shuts down the hormone production your body craves!

You may need serious Hormones & almost all the Over the counter stuff and most of the patches & creams are Band-Aids & snake oil at best & dangerous at worst. It only empty's your wallet.

STEP #1: Get your blood work done, that is the beginning of taking this bull by the horns & stopping being a sheep! You need answers & you need to stop letting the same Dr that let you get in this condition tell you what the next great wrong choice is. Wake up!

STEP #2: Even when they do your blood work most don't think about the fact that at our age "normal levels" still means nasty symptoms! ("In the Normal range means you are just in the company of every other woman your age that is ALSO MISERABLE, not that you are HEALTHY!). Think about it, they are telling you the "normal range for all the other women your age" and those women feel as crappy as you do. So don't let them tell you normal is OK, it's NOT! You have symptoms & you need help to get rid of them! There is an old saying about "When you do what you did; you get what you got!" . DON'T DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING!

I like to think I'm an out of the box thinker, so I went to a Bio Identical HRT clinic & listened to what they had to say. It made sense to me.

I started on Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy with Pellets; 3 years ago & that has been the best thing I ever did. Not much talk on here about Pellet therapy, but it is the real deal for me. I haven't had a Hot flash in 3 years and I have Energy, sleep, sex drive, vaginal lubrication, memory, I'm not a b**ch anymore & the panic attacks, joint pain and anxiety are GONE.

I was told the added androgen in BHRT helps your body make Serotonin & that's the natural calming hormone that helps me sleep great and gets rid of the bi**hy, moody & anxiety and depression. Either way I don't care, it has worked for me.

It's not free & most of it isn't covered by insurance, but sometimes it is & no Medicare or Medicaid coverage, so it is out of pocket. But what do ya want, healthy & happy or your husband with extra money to spend on his next wife! LOL!

Abstinence from nicotine, alcohol and caffeine can help you get rid of hot flashes. A diet full of greens and fibers along with physical exercise helps in keeping menopause symptoms at bay. Herbal/natural supplements are also useful in keeping the menopause symptoms away and do not have side effects.
