Pyruvate or Pyruvic acid is the end product of the anaerobic portion of glycolysis. If the cell has enough oxygen to run aerobic respiration then pyruvate is converted into acetyl-CoA and carbon dioxide byt eh enzyme pyruvate carboxylase. If there isn't enough oxygen in the cell, then pyruvate is converted to lactic acid in order to free up some of the required reactants(NAD+). Lactic acid is not formed in glycolysis, pyruvate is (CH3COCOOH). Lactic acid (CH3CHOHCOOH) is formed afterwards in anaerobic repiration, by the reduction of pyruvate. After it is formed it is then transported to the liver where it is oxidised back to pyruvate in the hepatocytes. This then goes on to aerobic respiration entering at the link reaction stage.
