When you have self control and are mature you have the ability to face dangerous situations (like accidents that can cause injury) with a clear, analytical approach that allows you to make quick, intelligent choices that help you avoid injury. If you are immature and lack control you are apt to become scared and fragmented in your thinking and reacting poorly and become injured as a result.
Motivation can come from both within a person (intrinsic motivation) and from external situations (extrinsic motivation). Intrinsic motivation arises from personal desires, goals, and values, while extrinsic motivation is driven by external rewards or consequences. Both types of motivation can influence a person's behavior and actions.
Motivation can come from within a person, driven by their personal goals, values, and desires. External situations can also influence motivation, such as rewards, competition, or deadlines, but ultimately, intrinsic motivation tends to be more sustainable and enduring.

A person may be jealous (of any other person or situation) as a result of fear, anxiety and insecurity. This generally occurs when a person feels something of value (such as a relationship or skill) is threatened (by another individual or skill set). Jealousy is often a result of a situation in which an individual has something and is afraid of losing it. The person may also envy (the other person or skill set). This is a situation where the individual does not have the thing/person desired, or wants to prevent another from obtaining.

Discernment is the ability to recognize or distinguish the true nature of someone or something. Discernment and wisdom are close cousins. Personally, discernment means that I can "see through" (discern) a situation and decide whether that situation is good or bad, for instance. I use discretion with a person that I have discerned to be bad for me. I have deducted/discerned through watchful eyes, that not everything is what it seems. Discernment is a result of having lived through different situations and learning the outcomes. In most cases, the older you are the better you can discern a good person from a bad person.
In very general terms, the ability to apply a specific result(s) obtained in a specific situation to other similar situations. However, you have to have a good reason to believe that your result(s) is/are in fact generalizable to these other situations. Many a Ph.D. student defending their dissertations have been slammed for failing to provide a sufficiently good rationale (or good evidence) for claiming that their results can be applied to more general situations than the ones they have investigated in the laboratory.
