South Korea has consistently made overtures for a peaceful reunification, such as the construction of Dorasan Station and the negotiation of the Kaesong Industrial Region. However, North Korea is much more of a mystery. It is unclear exactly which officials have power or what they would be willing to give up. It is likely in the best interests of the North Korean leadership to maintain the current status quo because they are already living quite well.
