A pinched nerve may cause pain, numbness, or tingling in a part of the body. However, other conditions can cause these symptoms as well. That is why it is important to see a doctor for proper diagnosis.
You are expierencing what many wrongly claim as a pinched nerve. its not pinched at all. What is going on is that you have a nerve that is touching some sort of protrusion such as a disc. The nerve touches it and then sends what feels like an electrical schock down your leg, sometimes all the way to your tippy toes, sometimes stopping at your knee. either way, it hurts like hell. DO NOT go to a chipropractor. Go to a orthopedic Doctor only..get well
A herniated disc in the low back which makes the foramina (the bony holes on either side through which the spinal nerves pass) narrow. This can result in one or both of the spinal nerves being pinched, causing pain or numbness to radiate down one or both legs. On the other hand, it's possible that neither nerve is pinched at all.
Whenever there is pain involved it can be helpful to heat or in some cases cool to relieve pain the effected areas. However heat pads wont do anything about the actual condition.

Pinched nerves in the neck mostly cause neck pain, headaches, or referral of symptomes into the arm or arms. An example would be ar or hand pain, arm weakness, tingling in the arm or hand, or a hand or arm that feels like it's falling asleep. This usually involves a lower cervical nerve. Sometimes a higher cervical pinched nerve can cause headaches also. The bottom line is that if you cut off nerve supply you will get symptoms of some sort.If you think you suffer from this I would see your doctor or chiropractor. At home I would use a neck roll or the cervical traction pillow to help align the spine and help relieve nerve pressure.
Your spine surgeon may go for discectomy operation. That should relieve the pressure on the nerve and will solve your problem.
