My Hypothesis for this question is that maybe the flame or the heat will tone down, it will die out, because if the surrounding is not windy then the fire will not die or tone down. the best way i have found to tone down the taste of sage in homemade vegetable soup is to add a little ketchup and sugar.. depending on what your making usually anything sweet will help tone it down. hope this helps.
