- In many States as long as the gun is registered an individual can carry it in their truck or keep it handy in their home. If you are having problems with your ex boyfriend and feel he is going to harm you then go to the police as soon as possible and tell them what you know. The police can check out the gun to see if it is registered and to whom. Once reported to police it stays on the books and your ex and his son will think twice about doing any harm towards you.
