Warning. If you're thinking about reading this series, this answer contains spoilers.
It's one of the most classic stories about the triumph of good over evil.
Harry Potter deals with real world issues today such as racism, and false media. Muggle-born wizards (wizards born from non-magical parents) are discriminated against throughout the series, but Harry and his friends fight against this unlawful act and eventually Muggle-borns are accepted by all. False media is presented by the way the government is making up stories about Harry in order to turn everyone against him. While Harry is fighting for justice, the government uses the media to make him seem unstable because of him losing his parents at such a young age (the age of one years old). By the end of the books Harry defeats the evil Lord Voldemort and the wizarding world is peaceful once more. The moral of the story is "Love conquers all" because Voldemort believes that love is silly and he is practically unable to love himself. (He has an entire background story that tells us why that is in the sixth book) Harry is surronded by the love of his friends constantly throughout the book and uses that to defeat Voldemort. Voldemort's inability to love is practically thrown back at him in the last book when he finds out that his right-hand-man had been working against him the entire time, because of (you guessed it) his love for a certain person. So, yeah. It's a pretty amazing series. It teaches life lessons, has a great moral, and is written by the extremely talented J.K. Rowling.
