According to the dictionary, philosophy is ' the love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline.' This is, however, only a string of words in a book and therefore cannot truly encompass the nature of philosophy. I personally find philosophy to be a journey through your own mind, finding a system of life that will function for you. This is from the viewpoint of a relativist (in absolutist terms), so a more eastern philosophy. Western philosophy is more concerned with what is solid and absolute, though I can't say that I understand the value of absolutism.
