Gap junctions
For animal cells it is called a "gap junction"
A gap junction enables connections between two different animal cells. It allows ions and molecules to pass between the cells freely and helps the organism to continue to exist.
Gap Junction
Tight junction - impermeable junction that encircles the cell Desmosome - anchoring junction scattered along the sides of cells Gap junction - a nexus that allows chemical substances to pass between cells
Gap junction aka nexus
The pass through the Appalachian Mountains is called the Cumberland Gap.

Communication Junction Desmasomes/Anchor Junction Gap Junction
The main function of a gap junction is to allow the transmission of electrical impulses among cells. These transmissions come from neighboring cells and they would not be able to communicate without a gap junction.
