Henry VIII. He was not capricious, he was desperate for a wife who could bear him a son to succeed him. Nor did he 'tire' of his wives: two he pensioned off handsomely, remaining on friendly terms with them; one died at childbirth, much to his grief; two he had beheaded for adultery - one of them almost certainly only the victim of gossip and court intrigue - and the last one remained his wife for the rest of his life.
