The crew of Apollo 15 carried 398 unauthorized First Day Stamp Covers into space for a German stamp dealer and his middleman who agreed not to sell them until the Apollo project was finished. The crew postmarked and autographed them while in space as agreed for a payment of $US7000 each. The promise was later broken, the crew decided to accept no payment, but were reprimanded and demoted in status because of their lack of judgment.
In addition, Commander Dave Scott was reprimanded for carrying and testing a watch and stopwatch into space for a manufacturer without NASA approval.
Alan Shepard and his crew was supposed to fly Apollo 13, but he got an ear infection close to the launch, so the crew of Apollo 14 were moved up a place allowing Alan Shepard to fly Apollo 14. The reason the whole crew switched was because they trained with each other and were put together to compliment each others skills.
The original crew was replaced with the backup crew because Charlie Duke got the measles.
Well, The crew that was supposed to go on Apollo 13 was Alan Sheppard's crew, but he got an ongoing ear infection so he and his crew got bumped. Afterwards, Jim Lovell and his crew (Fred Haise, and Ken Mattingly) were assigned for the Apollo 13 mission, but because the doctors thought Ken Mattingly was going to have the measles, he got bumped from the mission and was replaced with Jack Swigert. Hope this helps! :)
Apollo 13 almost got lost in space when an oxygen tank exploded, causing critical failure of the spacecraft's systems. The crew had to improvise solutions to safely return to Earth in a dramatic rescue mission.
The original three crew members of Apollo 13 were James Lovell, Fred .w.Haise and Thomas K. Mattingly. But Mattingly was grounded as he got measles . Jack Swigert replaced him.
Fred Haise, one of the astronauts on the Apollo 13 mission, developed a fever. This forced the crew to abort their lunar landing and focus on safely returning to Earth.
Ken Mattingly was replaced as the command module pilot for Apollo 13 because he was exposed to German measles and had no immunity to it. To ensure the safety of the crew, Mattingly was replaced by Jack Swigert.
The Apollo 13 crew got cold because their spacecraft's heating system was shut down to conserve power after an oxygen tank explosion. This led to the temperature inside the spacecraft dropping significantly, making it very cold for the astronauts.
The crew from Apollo 13 got back to Earth by using the Lunar Module as a lifeboat after an oxygen tank on their Service Module exploded, forcing them to abort their mission to land on the moon. They managed to execute a challenging manual re-entry sequence with the help of flight controllers on Earth and safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean.
hermes got apollos catle and apollo got a musical instrumint
Apollo 7 was the first manned mission. Apollos 4 and 6 were unmanned tests of the large Saturn V moon rocket. Apollo 5 was an unmanned test of the first Apollo Lunar Module on a smaller Saturn IB rocket; it carried no command and service module. Two unmanned tests of a smaller Saturn launch vehicle, the Saturn I, are sometimes known as Apollo 2 and 3. The name "Apollo 1" was given to the crew of Grissom, White and Chaffee for the flight that they never got to fly because of the launch pad fire that killed them in January 1967.
The crew of Apollo 13 got back to Earth by using the lunar module as a lifeboat after an oxygen tank explosion crippled their main spacecraft. They executed a critical engine burn to adjust their trajectory, allowing them to slingshot around the moon and use its gravity to propel them back towards Earth. They safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on April 17, 1970.
