The deer most likely use their mouth or nose. They then expand their chest or lungs to withdraw the air from the atmosphere. The air then travels though the mouth or nose into the lungs.
trachea
Air passes through your nose and mouth and into your windpipe, also known as the trachea, which carries the air to your lungs for breathing.
Air passes from the environment into the nose/mouth, through the nasopharynx and oropharynx, into the glottis, trachea, bronchi and its bifurcations, and into the alveoli of the lungs.
Chest is not moving. no air is coming out of the nose. Heart stops beating.
Look at the chest to see if it rises and falls, listen for the sound of air moving in and out of the nose or mouth, and feel for air against your cheek from the nose or mouth
The pharynx carries air from the nose and mouth to the trachea. The pharynx also has functions in the digestive system.
The cough can.
You can observe respiration by looking for signs such as inhaling and exhaling of air, movement of the chest or abdomen, and listening for breath sounds. Additionally, you can feel for air being expelled from the mouth or nose and check for a pulse to ensure circulation of oxygenated blood.
