There must be a "check engine" light on. Start with investigating the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
Not sure what year your Sonata is but for an example the 2008 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.4 L 4 or 3.3 L 6 cylinder engine doesn't use a timing belt.
