On the end of the sensor there is a resistor. When a resistor is use in the manner, it is being use to measure temperature. In this case, the temp. of the exhaust. Most of the time the sensor is just dirty, with carbon. This can make it read either way, too hot or too cold. The exhaust is suppose to between 300 and 500 degrees before the catalytic converter and 500 and 1500 degrees directly after, If I remember correctly. If the exhaust is under temp. the fuel is running too lean, and needs to be adjusted. If the temp. is too high, the fuel is too rich and needs to be adjusted. Now for the confusing part. On the cars that are E. F. I., the timing plays and important part in fuel delivery. So the O2 sensor sends the signals to the computer and it makes the adjustments, fuel, timing or both.
Yes, a bad ignition coil / misfire will cause an unburned mixture of gas/air to go into cat converter which will than combust in it and cause damage to either catalitic converter, oxygen sensor(s) or both. J.Dropic
No
Letting the clutch go to quickly bad gas can cause that, or water in the gas It could have run out of fuel Could be the oxygen sensor.
The sensors that usually go bad in a Dodge truck are the throttle position sensor, the oxygen sensor, engine light sensor and crank sensor. These malfunctions can be fixed on any Dodge dealership.
No but I would recommend to make sure the sensor is completely dry before installing
The check engine light will illuminate.
If it is part of the valve stem, yes.
It is definitely possible that being rear ended can cause the mass airflow sensor to go bad. If the exhaust system has been damaged, it will effect the airflow. Also the impact itself may have jarred the sensor loose.
The problem with the Peugeot Expert Van might be the MAP Sensor or the Oxygen Sensor. Oxygen Sensors cause the engine to be starved of oxygen when they go bad.
Engine sensors will only "go bad" from environmental effects. Lack of oil causes excessive heat. Heat can cause cam sensor failure
A bad crankshaft sensor would stop the engine and not restart.
Go to the auto parts store and buy a scanner OBD1 or OBD2 and it will let you know why your check engine light is on and if the o2 sensor is bad
